Forney ISD trustees were presented with an attendance-zone modification plan on Monday that would reassign elementary students to the newly named Jim and Linda Jacobs Elementary and adjust boundaries to relieve overcrowding.
Kim Wozak, associate superintendent, said the demographer's projection showed Griffin well above capacity and proposed two main changes: convert part of the existing Willett zone to Jacobs Elementary and move a small area from Griffin into Crosby to provide immediate relief. "So that's the first portion...The second portion is this little red square...proposed to be zoned out of Griffin and into Crosby," Wozak said while walking trustees through maps.
The plan also proposes a dual-language approach: Wilson and the new Jacobs campus would each host dual-language pre-K–4 programs so Spanish- and English-track students would have dual-language options at both campuses. Wozak said the dual-language arrangement and the rezone together would balance capacity and carry the district through the next two school years in the demographer's mid-range projection.
The district laid out a public-engagement timeline: first reading of the plan Nov. 10; public feedback accepted Nov. 10–30; targeted dual-language information session Nov. 13 (English and Spanish) and an all-audience session Nov. 17; special-called public hearing Nov. 20; and proposed board adoption Dec. 15. If approved, the district will email affected families, post maps online and proceed with mascot voting and staffing in January–February for the new campus.
Wozak said the district's 10-year forecast shows continued growth and emphasized this rezone applies only to elementary (pre-K–4) attendance zones; intermediate, middle and high school zones are not being changed. Trustees did not take final action Monday; staff asked for public feedback during the posted comment window before bringing a final adoption item to the board.
