Representatives of Simsbury Community Media (SCM) used the closing portion of a promotion ceremony at Simsbury Center to urge local support for the public‑access station.
An SCM speaker said the organization’s funding structure “is based on television subscriptions” and that revenue has declined as residents shift to internet‑only subscriptions. “SCM receives less revenue,” the speaker said, and asked the audience to consider donating online or by scanning a QR code shown on screen.
The remarks emphasized SCM’s role broadcasting local government meetings, school events and graduations and preserving the town’s history. A speaker said donations will “ensure that SCM remains open, continues to educate our youth and keeps our community informed.” The presentation included a request to visit SCM’s website or scan the QR code for contributions.
SCM did not provide specific budget figures or a fundraising target during the remarks. The representatives framed their appeal as an effort to maintain access to local programming and meeting coverage as cable subscription fees — a traditional revenue source — decline.
