St. Paul opens Emergency Rental Assistance program; households may qualify for up to $2,500

Chair Johnson announced at the end of the HRA meeting that the City of St. Paul’s Emergency Rental Assistance and Eviction Prevention program is now open for applications.
The program is intended to help low-income renter households avoid eviction and prevent an eviction from going on a household’s record. Chair Johnson said each eligible household could qualify for up to $2,500 to cover late rent and associated fees. The city invested $1 million in the program this year and staff from PED and other partners will process applications in the order they are received. Chair Johnson framed the program as citywide, with income limits but no specific geographic restriction within St. Paul, and said the program is one tool to help keep people housed during the winter and holiday season. He closed the meeting following the announcement.
