Board adopts CME reporting change and updates policy on closing physician practices

The Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure adopted two items meant to streamline regulatory compliance for licensees.
First, the board adopted revised regulatory language on continuing medical education (CME) reporting. The amendment clarifies that physicians who are board‑certified by a recognized ABMS specialty do not have to duplicate CME reporting; certifications and CME records maintained on an accepted specialty platform may be submitted to meet the board’s requirements. The board said it still intends to approve a digital platform to make auditing and tracking administratively easier, but physicians already certified by ABMS specialties will not be required to duplicate their reports in the new system.
Second, the board adopted an updated Policy 3.17 governing steps when a physician closes a practice. The changes are largely semantic and were made to align the policy’s record‑retention timeframes with recent legislative changes and existing statute and regulations reviewed by the OLRC.
Both items were approved by voice votes and will be forwarded as required for the OLRC review and administrative processing.
