The Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure voted to withdraw the proposed regulations on CRNA collaboration and to reopen the topic for broader stakeholder discussion.
Dr. Kirk Kennard, speaking for the rules and regulations committee, said the committee had received a large volume of public comments during the commentary period and concluded that it would be prudent to withdraw the current proposal and reexamine the language. "It's always good to look at your rules and make sure they are serving the intended purpose," Kennard told the board, adding the committee wanted constituencies to "sit around a table and hash this out further."
Kennard emphasized the board’s dual mission to protect patient safety while maintaining practical delivery of care, and he framed the withdrawal as an opportunity to seek compromise rather than a policy retreat. The board approved the committee’s motion to withdraw the proposed rules by voice vote.
Board members said staff will coordinate additional stakeholder sessions and that any revised proposal would return to the rules committee and the full board before moving forward to the OLRC and formal adoption process.
