The Veil Service Commission approved a set of certification lists presented by city staff, including nine candidates for police officer certification and multiple candidates for public-works positions.
Staff reported the latest police recruitment round drew 102 applicants, 79 of whom qualified to continue in the testing process. After withdrawals, no-shows and test or background failures, nine candidates remained on the certification list presented to the commission for approval.
The commission also approved certification lists for a number of public-works positions. Staff presented the following counts to be certified today: two mechanics for fleet, 14 park technicians, two sewer equipment operators, two sewer maintenance workers, ten street equipment operators (civil-service rules limit promotional lists to 10), and four welders. For entry-level and promotional hires, staff reviewed required qualifications and timelines for obtaining CDL endorsements, pesticide applicator certification, tanker endorsements, and other job-specific credentials.
A commissioner asked about the demographic makeup of candidate pools for these lists; staff acknowledged this round produced primarily male candidates for some trade roles and said the result reflected who applied and passed testing in this cycle.
A motion to approve the certification lists was made and seconded; the chair called for the ayes and the lists were approved by voice vote. Staff said they will proceed with conditional offers and onboarding consistent with civil-service and background-check requirements.
