Conway board grants Quattlebaum awards to Mercy Baptist, Oak Tree Farm and other nominees

The Conway Community Appearance Board voted to grant the annual Quattlebaum design awards to a slate of nominated projects across categories including restoration, new construction, design effort, signage and contribution to quality development.
Staff presented nominees in each category and described before-and-after images and project details. For outstanding restoration of a nonresidential building, staff nominated 2805 Fourth Avenue (Mercy Baptist Church) and 1101 4th Avenue (Stella's Homemade Ice Cream); the board singled out Mercy Baptist for the restoration award. The board also acknowledged 2918 Church Street (Petco) in the new nonresidential construction category and named two residential projects in Wild Wing Plantation in the new residential construction category.
In the outstanding design-effort category, staff described additions at Ecclesia Church at 2469 Highway 501 East, including a new worship center and related childcare facility adjustments that required coordination with the Department of Social Services. For outstanding signage projects the board considered Palmetto Taps (909 4th Avenue) and a Collins Waltz subdivision sign (1102 Blueback Herring Way). In the final category, staff presented Oak Tree Farm (overseen by SOS Healthcare) as a nominee for contribution to quality development; Miss Dennis described Oak Tree Farm as an affordable housing community and life-skills center serving adults with autism and intellectual disabilities.
After discussion, Board member S2 moved to accept the awards previously discussed as a single omnibus motion; the motion was seconded and passed. Staff will notify winners and prepare award materials.
