Council members spent portions of Monday’s meeting recognizing local contributors and highlighting recent events.
Resolutions honored sculptor Alex Pokovich for his public art, Pastor Bill Monroe for 56 years of ministry and community service, and Wilson High School’s Marching Tiger Pride Band for winning the 2025 SCBDA 3A/4A traditional high-step state championship. Honorees spoke briefly; Pokovich thanked the city and Pastor Monroe acknowledged his congregation and ministry.
In the city manager's report, staff noted the 2025 Pecan Festival drew more than 50,000 visitors, approximately 280 vendors, visitors from multiple states, and an estimated $2,000,000 economic impact to the community. The finance department was recognized with the Government Finance Officers Association certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.
Council also recognized graduates of the fall 2025 Youth City University and announced plans for 2026 sessions for youth and adults.
