Surveillance-technology bill: Members discussed Bill 25‑4, which would establish transparency and safeguards for county acquisition and use of new surveillance technologies (including facial recognition and license-plate readers). Staff said the bill has been introduced and had a public hearing but no PSC work session yet; commissioners said the commission lacked capacity to research the issue now and agreed to table taking a position unless a volunteer leads a review.
Recruit training engagement: The commission accepted an invitation to meet the newest academy graduates during a community‑informed policing training on Jan. 7 from 04:30–05:45, noting municipal recruits from Gaithersburg, Rockville, Takoma Park and others may also participate. Several commissioners volunteered to attend; staff posted the details in the meeting chat for scheduling.
Other items: The ACP noted outstanding correspondence (including a forwarded letter to the state’s attorney seeking clarification of March public-forum remarks) and discussed plans for an informal social gathering to be placed on the December agenda.
