Commissioners debriefed a business loan-pool seminar held Oct. 30 and discussed next steps to relaunch and publicize the program.
Melanie, a commissioner who identified herself as a business owner, summarized takeaways: banks conduct full financial reviews of applicants so the village need not collect sensitive financial information; the village's role is to refer potential borrowers to participating banks and promote the program. "The bank does a full review of the businesses," she said, arguing the village should avoid duplicative financial requests.
Commissioners suggested creating testimonials from prior grantees, relaunching the program with a press release from Village President Soderbergh, and updating the application map posted on the website (the commission recently expanded program coverage to the entire village but the posted map still shows only a district). Staff confirmed an updated application and map are needed and said one application was received the morning after the meeting (applicant attended the seminar).
Members discussed hosting the seminar semiannually and partnering with the chamber and local banks for joint sessions. They also proposed an opt-in directory of local professional resources (realtors, contractors, designers, sign companies) on the village website to help businesses starting or expanding in Germantown; staff and the commission agreed to explore the concept and coordination with the chamber.
Staff will follow up on application updates and coordinate with bank partners on possible future seminar dates; commissioners asked that completed applications and any new applicants be reported at the next meeting.
