Montgomery County ACP approves testimony supporting later police-data deadline in Bill 33‑25

The Montgomery County Advisory Commission on Policing voted to send a draft testimony to the County Council and Public Safety Committee for the Nov. 18 hearing on Bill 33‑25, which changes the deadline for the police community‑policing statistical report.
Sunny, chair of the data subcommittee, told commissioners that the bill moves the report deadline “from February 1 to April 1,” and said the subcommittee had originally requested April 15. The draft testimony “welcomes the move” and asks the Council to follow up on four recommendations the commission included in an Oct. 13 letter.
Commissioners reviewed the draft testimony on screen, discussed formatting concerns, and emphasized that the submission should reflect the committee’s prior recommendations. A motion to approve sending the testimony was made and seconded; the commission voted to send it (motion passed unanimously).
The ACP asked staff to forward the testimony to the Council and to make any technical edits requested by members before filing. The commission will monitor the Nov. 18 hearing and consider further follow-up if the Council requests additional information.
Next steps: staff will file the testimony for the Nov. 18 public hearing and circulate a copy of the final submitted text to commissioners.
