County to pilot energy-management dashboard, contract amendment to fund tracking and efficiency work

Wayne County facilities staff told the Public Services committee they will implement an energy-management dashboard as part of an amendment to the county’s computerized maintenance management system.
Joan Gregg, deputy director for facilities management and planning, and Alex Smith, project manager in sustainability and innovation, said the system will import utility data from providers (electric, water and others), provide month-to-month consumption and cost tracking, and support identification of efficiency projects across county-owned buildings. Staff estimated the county spends about $11 million per year on energy and said the dashboard will bring transparency to where those dollars are spent.
Alex Smith said the dashboard is cloud-based and that the county will share reports with commissioners and other departments. Commissioners asked about whether services had already started (agenda paperwork mentioned Nov. 1) and staff clarified that no work will begin until the Commission approves the amendment and that the county will go out to bid for the next contract term.
The committee forwarded the item to the full Board.
