Summary
Jeronda McCray asked the committee for a city development agreement to receive a $250,000 WEDC reimbursable CDI grant and cited additional financing including a $10,000 Building Bridges grant; she estimated total development costs rising to about $723,000 and asked the city to act as pass-through and oversight for the funding.
Jeronda McCray, an event planner and principal of 4 Generations Holdings LLC, presented a proposal to convert a building at 4930 N. 32nd St. into an event space and requested a development agreement with the city to accept and administer a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Community Development Investment (CDI) grant.
McCray told the committee WEDC would provide a $250,000 reimbursable grant and that the project had also received a $10,000 Building Bridges grant. She described the property as a family-owned business and outlined an event-space concept with a courtyard and greenhouse addition to enable year-round use. McCray reported that the project began with a $250,000 estimate, was at $500,000 in recent calculations, and "it's gonna probably run around 723,000 once it's all said and done." She asked the city to enter a development agreement so the city could act as the pass-through entity between WEDC and 4 Generations Holdings and provide oversight.
Gregory Martin, director of the Small Business Development Center in Milwaukee, said his office provided financial guidance and supported the proposal. A Department of City Development representative indicated the department had been working with WEDC on vetting the project and was prepared to act as pass-through. Committee members expressed support for the concept and moved for confirmation of associated appointments in the agenda where appropriate.
