At the opening of the Nov. 12 vendor relations meeting, Rosemary Bowen delivered a personal tribute to former Scranton mayor and Vietnam veteran David (Dave) Wenzel, who died the previous week.
Bowen recounted Wenzel’s wartime injuries and his long record of service to Scranton, including visits to schools where he spoke to students about his military experience and showed his medals. "He was a hero in my opinion," Bowen said, urging the city and schools to do more to remember veterans and to care for them and their families.
Board president called for a moment of silence in honor of Mayor Wenzel and all veterans and extended the board’s condolences to the family. Members of the board briefly expressed appreciation for Wenzel’s service and offered thanks to Bowen for her remembrance.
The remarks were delivered at the start of the meeting and concluded before the committee’s business began.
