Justin (parks staff) explained the packet corrections and highlighted pickleball as a pressure point: the department currently charges about $6 per court per hour for casual/reservation use and proposed a tournament/facility fee to allow groups to reserve courts without disrupting open play. "If we were to charge them $6 per court per hour, the cost would be thousands of dollars for them to use it for a weekend," he said, noting the department discussed a one-day tournament/ facility fee (staff noted a $150 per day facility fee as an option).
Committee members acknowledged the user group preferred free access but agreed staff must balance competing uses, enforce reservations and consider modest fees for tournaments to help cover operating costs. The committee approved the corrected fee schedule by voice vote; members said the fees are modest and meant as a control and modest revenue source rather than a major budget solution.
Staff will update the published fee schedule with the corrected numbers and return if any additional changes are needed.
