Amy Perotti was elected chair of the Newington Board of Education at the board’s Nov. 11 meeting after nominations and a roll-call vote.
Dr. Maureen Brummet opened the meeting and reviewed board bylaws that require the board to elect a chairperson and a secretary at the first meeting after the biennial town election. Tim Newton moved to nominate Amy Perotti for chair; the motion received a second and, after nominations were closed, the board voted. "Let the record indicate that Amy Perotti has been elected chairperson of the Newington Board of Education," the presiding official announced.
The board then accepted nominations for secretary. A member nominated Sean Halloran; the motion was seconded, nominations were closed, and the board carried a roll-call vote to elect Halloran as secretary.
After assuming the chair, Perotti exercised her discretion to appoint Jessica Weaver as vice chair; the appointment was announced by the chair and no roll-call vote was recorded on the appointment.
The elections followed procedures spelled out in the board’s bylaws and were unanimous in the roll-call tallies recorded at the meeting. No public comments were received during the meeting on the officer elections.
What happens next: The newly elected officers will serve according to the board’s rules until the next required election or change of officers.
