Committee approves vendor recommendations and takes several procurement items under advisement

Rutherford County’s purchasing committee approved a set of vendor recommendations and took several procurement items under advisement for further review.
Staff presented three bids for custodial and chemical supplies and recommended Victory Supply as the county’s primary vendor with Barker identified as the secondary source. A commissioner moved to approve the recommendation; the motion was seconded and carried by roll-call vote.
Committee members also voted to take additional supply-line bid decisions under advisement to allow staff to prepare a vendor spreadsheet with addresses and origin details for better procurement transparency.
On single-stream electronics recycling, solid-waste staff (S9) said the county has operated a pilot program, currently charges 33¢ per pound at the convenience center on Sulphur Springs Road, and has seen market volatility in commodity prices. "We charge 33¢ a pound, and that's not exactly what we could charge, but it is where we're not clearing anything," S9 said to explain current pricing and margins. Staff reported four bidders for electronics recycling and recommended taking the RFP under advisement while the county seeks better pricing and pursues an EPA grant that could fund exterior renovations and site work at the recycling facility.
Motions to take the supply rebids and the recycling RFP under advisement were moved, seconded, and carried. Staff said they will return with more detailed spreadsheets and additional information at the committee’s next meeting on Dec. 9, 2020.
