Mineola village officials presented proclamations, certificates and a commemorative street sign Friday evening to Mineola High School’s state‑champion marching band, praising the ensemble for its record score and the student leadership that sustained its season.
The mayor of Mineola opened the event by congratulating the band and noting the team’s achievement as “state champions, not only state champions, but, getting the highest score ever in history,” and invited band director Mr. Camping and student leaders to the stage for recognition and gifts.
Band director Mr. Camping thanked the village board for its support during the season and described the program’s leadership structure, naming drum majors, section leaders, color‑guard captains, an operations manager and rookie liaison. “Every rehearsal, just showing up, being better than what we were last, you know, that’s our goal,” Mr. Camping said, adding he was proud of every member.
Visiting officials joined the remarks. Paul Ehrbar, mayor of neighboring Williston Park, presented a certificate and congratulated the students for representing a district that stretches beyond Mineola. Nassau County Legislator Scott Strauss, speaking as an alumnus, brought citations for band members and praised parents and staff for supporting the program. Town supervisor Jen DeSena handed a proclamation to the director and commended the band as a demonstration of teamwork that enriches community events.
Assemblyman Ed Ra said the band’s success reflects continuity in leadership and student mentorship, calling it a ‘‘source of pride’’ for the school and the wider community.
Ceremonial presentations included certificates and citations for students, a commemorative coin presented to the band director by the village, and a commemorative street sign the band will keep; officials noted these were honors and no formal board vote was recorded. The mayor closed by thanking the public‑works, auxiliary police and parking staff who helped manage the home show and large events, and by saying the village looks forward to honoring the band again next year.
The event concluded with a group photo and distribution of citations and certificates to band leadership and members.
