Adams County Committee postpones decision on selling excess right-of-way after fence dispute

Adams County highway staff reported that a newly purchased parcel adjacent to County Trunk Highway J now contains a fence on county right-of-way. The landowner apologized and indicated willingness to relocate the fence and asked whether the county would consider selling the excess right-of-way.
Pat, highway staff, estimated the combined areas at roughly 1.8 acres based on GIS and said a survey would be required to determine the exact acreage and to set a sale price using recent comparable sales. He recommended the county retain 45–50 feet around the curve for safety and cautioned that any sale traditionally involves property committee review and eventual full county board approval.
A committee member moved to postpone consideration until the next meeting to collect additional information, potentially including a survey and further legal review; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Pat said he told the owner to pause relocation work until the Committee provided direction.
