Kingsport board approves security film installation and flatbed truck purchase

Mr. Fry asked the board to approve the purchase and installation of security film for the Civic Auditorium in the Dobyns Bennett Science and Technology building under an interlocal (TIPS) contract with Tennessee Window Films at a total cost of $82,571.68. He said $75,874.76 of the cost will be covered by a state public-school security grant and the remaining $6,696 will come from the district's operating budget. The installation is scheduled for December and will be completed outside school hours.
On the second item Mr. Fry recommended buying a 2026 Ford F-350 SuperCrew cab flatbed pickup from Allen J Fleet Sales under the Tennessee statewide contract for $67,735. He said the vehicle will be outfitted with a 2,000-gallon water tank and custom storage boxes for fire-management services at Dobyns Bennett and that donations already held in a high-school internal account will fund the purchase. The truck has an estimated six-month lead time and is expected to arrive late next spring.
Both items were moved and seconded and, after some members experienced electronic-vote problems, the board conducted audible voice votes. The chair called for in favor/opposed and recorded no nays or abstentions in the meeting transcript; both motions passed.
The approvals include contract vendors and funding sources: Tennessee Window Films via the TIPS contract for the security film and Allen J Fleet Sales via a Tennessee statewide contract for the vehicle. No amendments to the motions were recorded in the meeting transcript.
