Tooele City Council unanimously certifies 2025 general election results

Tooele City Council members voted unanimously Wednesday to accept the county canvas and certify the 2025 general election after a presentation from City Recorder Shiloh Baker.

Baker told the council that Tooele City had 6,126 ballots cast in the general election, out of 18,111 registered voters — approximately a 33.82% turnout. She said the canvass packet includes the countywide canvas results, a signed election canvas affidavit from Tooele County Clerk Tracy Shaw, the Tooele City election summary report, precinct summaries and a 90‑page cast‑vote‑record report that will be posted on the city and county websites.

"There were 6,126 Tooele City ballots cast, which is a better turnout than we had in the primary," Baker said, summarizing the packet and the post‑election audit she participated in that morning. Baker told the council that the hand count in the post‑election audit matched the machines.

The packet lists the mayoral vote counts shown to the council: Marie Saturniale Manzion, 3,511 votes (57.87%); Brad Pratt, 2,559 votes (42.16%). The recorder also reported the city council general election totals and declared that John Gossett (3,339 votes) and Dave McCall (3,199 votes) were duly elected to the City Council for terms beginning in January 2026 and ending December 2029.

Baker thanked the Tooele County Clerk's office, poll workers and volunteers for administering the election and noted the city will post the full cast‑vote‑record and supporting materials online. She said the swearing‑in for the elected offices is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2026.

Councilwoman Goches moved to accept the general vote canvas "as presented by Shiloh," and Councilman Hansen seconded. A roll call vote recorded five ayes from Councilwoman Manzion, Councilwoman Goches, Councilman Hansen, Councilman McCall and Councilman Brady; the motion passed 5–0. The council signed the post‑canvas report as required and adjourned at 5:09 p.m.

The materials that the council accepted include the county clerk's signed affidavit that, according to Baker, swears the election was conducted in compliance with ballot‑security rules outlined by the lieutenant governor's office and that the clerk's office maintains the voter‑registration database in accordance with federal and state law.
