At its Nov. 13 meeting, the Hammond City Board of Public Works and Safety approved personnel and routine administrative items including police and fire promotions and disposal authorizations.
Correspondence from Police Chief William Short recommended accepting Sergeant Gabriel Gutierrez’s retirement effective Jan. 16, 2026; promoting Dylan Lessard to corporal effective Nov. 15, 2025; and removing Officer David Zamora’s FTO specialty pay as of Oct. 30, 2025. The board approved those recommendations by voice vote.
Fire Chief Bernard Gazzola submitted correspondence requesting reassignments and promotions for EMT Brandon Dils (reassignment effective 11/12/2025), EMT Sebastian Diaz (reassignment effective 11/10/2025), private Craig Johnson (promotion to EMT effective 11/10/2025) and probationary Julian Rutherford (promotion to EMT effective 12/05/2025); the board approved those actions.
The board also approved disposal authorizations submitted by the Hammond Police Department and approved engineering right-of-way permit requests presented at the meeting.
Approvals were made by motion and voice vote and will be processed through departmental human-resources procedures.
