Sergeant Jason Schmied presented the police enforcement report for October 2025: 172 calls for service for the period and 1,248 year-to-date, an average response time of about 7 minutes, 18 incident reports (including thefts, assaults, overdoses and a dog bite), and seven arrests. He described proactive patrol details and noted recent investigations, including a pursuit-related crash on South Miami that led to narcotics being found in the vehicle.
Safety committee members reported progress on street-sight mirrors installed at multiple intersections to improve visibility, confirmed cameras installed after park vandalism, and recommended no immediate action on a resident request for a crosswalk where no sidewalk exists. The committee also concluded a school-based tornado shelter was not feasible now because of liability and logistical constraints.
Parks & Rec reviewed finances and event planning: revenue is up but so are expenses, a $1,000 grant from the insurance company is earmarked for an AED at the park concession stand, and staff discussed tree plantings near fields and the possibility of taking on a tournament. Members raised safety concerns about ultra-light aircraft operating over public fields while games are in session and suggested regulated scheduling or restrictions.
Volunteers and organizers also reported progress on the Christmas Walk event: vendors, performers and merchandise (novelty illuminated items and T-shirt options) were being coordinated; the group scheduled additional planning meetings and asked for donations for raffle prizes.
