Onalaska staff success day scheduling and council-chambers tech demo discussed

City Administrator Rick told the council the recent staff success day at the DASH Center went well and that staff requested not holding the event on Veterans Day going forward. He proposed moving the date to a neutral, nonholiday day and initially suggested the first Monday in October; council members raised conflicts (municipal court, payroll, fire prevention week, Indigenous Peoples' Day in some years) and asked staff to revisit the proposal rather than vote on a date immediately. The motion to set the first Monday in October was withdrawn so staff can propose alternatives after further consultation.
Rick and IT staff (Joe) reported they had a demonstration with AMS of upgraded audio/visual equipment for the council chambers and proposed bringing the vendor in for a one-hour hands-on demo so council members could test the cameras, assisted-listening features and improved audio. Council members raised scheduling concerns (Board of Public Works meeting, room-tax meeting) and asked staff to poll members for available dates; staff will send example links and vendor references (including examples from other jurisdictions) to help members assess the system ahead of a demo.
No procurement decision was made at the Nov. 11 meeting; staff will return with proposed demo dates and options, and will present recommended procurement steps only after the council has seen the equipment and agreed on scope.
