The GREAT NECK UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT Board of Education on Nov. 5 recognized John F. Kennedy Elementary and Saddle Rock Elementary as Apple Distinguished Schools, honoring their use of technology to support innovation, collaboration and student-centered learning.
Principals Ron Giamondo (John F. The recognition also comes with access to professional development opportunities.
District technology staff developers Laura Goldstein (Kennedy), Lauren Rio and Connor Riley (Saddle Rock), Director of Technology Dr. Justin Lander, and GMPS TV producer Rob Zahn were credited for application support, staff training and the three-minute videos that accompanied the schools’ submissions.
Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education and the superintendent said the district expects to recognize two additional elementary buildings by year’s end, bringing the district’s total Apple Distinguished elementary schools to three and rising.
Board members thanked the school teams and district technology staff for their work in advancing digital learning.
The board formally acknowledged the recognitions at the meeting; no vote was required beyond the ceremonial recognition.
