Royal Palm Beach Elementary students showcase safety programs, community drive at advisory board

Royal Palm Beach Elementary School students and Principal Geddy presented school programs and community initiatives to the Education Advisory Board on Nov. 10.

Students opened by reciting the school’s three guiding norms: "Be safe, be respectful, be a learner," and described safety systems that include a trusted-adult survey, a badge-activated crisis alert system and Fortify Florida online reporting, which the school said routes concerns immediately to administrators. "Before we can learn, we need to make sure we all feel safe," a student presenter said during the report.

Principal Geddy highlighted academic and community supports, noting that more than 90% of faculty either have children currently enrolled or are alumni of the school. She told the board the school has collected 883 nonperishable food items so far for a drive that will provide holiday assistance to about 20 Bobcat families, and requested donations of Publix gift cards or turkeys to supplement the collection.

The presentation also outlined PBIS recognition programs — including weekly Bobcat ticket drawings, a Bobcat student-of-the-month award with a paw-print medal and pizza from a business partner — and curricular supports such as the Ben Carson Reading Room, Morphology Monday vocabulary work and a Fluency Flight math initiative designed to build speed and accuracy on math facts.

School staff and board members praised the students’ performances and thanked families for participation. The board’s presiding officer invited families to remain for the rest of the meeting or return for future school events.

The next Education Advisory Board meeting is scheduled for Dec. 8, when Western Academy Charter School will present.
