Temple ISD board approves targeted-improvement plans for Jefferson, Ray Allen and Thornton elementaries

The Temple ISD Board of Trustees voted Nov. 10 to approve targeted-improvement plans for Jefferson, Ray Allen and Thornton elementary schools after a public hearing at which no members of the public spoke.
Dr. Adams and campus principals walked trustees through each campus’ "wildly important goals" and the district’s two-year targeted plan for closing gaps in student performance. The plans emphasize implementation of the new curriculum, targeted capacity building for principals, instructional coaches and teachers, resource deployment to ensure teachers have materials, regular implementation checkpoints (walkthroughs and product advisers), and student-assessment checkpoints to measure progress.
Dr. Adams described the federal identification and support process for campuses in the 'closing the gaps' domain and noted the plan’s two-year requirement: "It is 2 years," she said, explaining that federal identification carries a two-year timeline even if campuses make faster progress.
A motion to approve the plans was made by Mrs. Alexander and seconded by Mrs. Cook; the motion passed by voice vote.
What’s next: campus teams will implement the milestones and district staff will provide coaching, product advisers and periodic reporting to the board on progress toward the plan’s milestones.
