Board member Bill Tarver, speaking from his seat, said "it has become apparent that aspects of this appointment process have not been transparent or consistent as we had hoped," asked whether all five applicants would be given equal opportunity to interview, and requested clarity on who and what criteria would determine candidate qualifications. Tarver specifically contrasted the current process with a recent District 7 appointment process that he said had been "open and fair."
Paul, a board member who moved the motion, said, "Madam chair, I move to go into the executive session to conduct the candidate's interview." Miss Allen seconded the motion. During the roll call the clerk recorded Allen's "aye," Iqbal's "yes," and Molina's "yes;" the committee then entered executive session. Madam chair instructed nonparticipating members to leave and said Miss Berman would be the only candidate brought into the closed session.
After brief technical housekeeping and an announcement that the committee would report back on Monday, Paul moved to adjourn; Miss Allen seconded and the meeting was adjourned.
