Summary
Bernalillo County Treasurer's Office announced a voluntary program that splits a property owner’s prior-year tax bill into 10 automated monthly payments (June–March). Eligibility requires taxes to be current and that taxes are not paid by an escrow or mortgage company; there are no participation fees.
The Bernalillo County Treasurer's Office announced a voluntary monthly property tax payment agreement that lets qualifying property owners spread their prior year property tax bill over 10 monthly payments, the office said.
"The monthly property tax payment agreement allows qualifying property taxpayers to make smaller payments over a 10 month period," the Bernalillo County Treasurer's Office said. The office said the agreement runs from June through March and is based on the prior year's property tax bill.
The program is designed for homeowners who want smaller, predictable monthly payments; the office said it is "ideal for homeowners on a fixed income." To qualify, property owners must be current on their property taxes and may not participate if a mortgage or escrow company is paying the taxes on their behalf.
There are no fees to participate, the office said. Automated withdrawals for enrolled accounts are scheduled for the eighth of each month or the next occurring business day.
To enroll, the Treasurer's Office directs property owners to its website (Treasurer page) to find a link labeled "monthly property tax payment agreement," which opens a PDF contract. The office said taxpayers should print and complete the form and mail it with a voided check to the Treasurer's Office at PO Box 27800, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87125. The Treasurer's Office gave the final date to enroll in the program each year as Aug. 31.
Participants must notify the Treasurer's Office of any bank-account changes. Property owners who wish to disenroll or who sell or transfer their property are required to send a written cancellation notice to the Treasurer's Office.
