School board readies committees to vet state‑approved K–12 curriculum

Finance staff noted the district plans to use existing carryover funds and a $200,000 textbook template allocation plus nearly $300,000 in unspent textbook funds carried forward to try to cover required purchases, but warned that science and history lists and associated costs were still pending state release and might require additional budget requests.
Board members raised concerns about unfunded mandates and asked staff to provide price estimates for science and history materials when the state publishes final lists. The superintendent said the division will present committee appointments and recommended purchases for a first board review next month.
Next steps: staff expects state lists for science and history in November and will return with committee rosters and cost estimates for board action in March.
