Pomona Unified trustees on Nov. 12 approved annual salary schedules for administrators, classified and confidential employees and authorized a contract for a new chief facilities officer to begin Dec. 8, 2025. Superintendent Darren Knowles said the district conducted two rounds of searches and interviews and recommended the candidate for board approval; trustees approved the agreement by roll call.
The board also addressed an individual consent item (classified personnel temporary assignment, item 5.06) that had been pulled for separate consideration. Two trustees publicly criticized the process, saying they had been asked for input and their opinions were not considered before the employee assumed higher duties and received additional pay. One trustee described the timing as inappropriate and said payment should have been approved in advance rather than months later. The board approved the individual item by a vote recorded as 3 in favor, 1 no, 1 abstention.
Trustees also discussed salary schedule procedures and comparables used for reclassifications and off‑schedule adjustments. Staff described annual CalPERS reporting requirements that require board approval of salary schedules; trustees asked HR to standardize comparable districts used in salary surveys.
Why it matters: The actions finalize personnel and pay items needed for ongoing operations and facilities work; the contested consent item highlights board concern about process and transparency in personnel decisions.
What’s next: Chief facilities officer’s effective start date is Dec. 8; staff will return with salary schedule changes as negotiations or reclassifications are completed.
