Murray County Economic Alliance reports $1.1M in annual commitments, pipeline of projects for Columbia area

Will Evans, president of the Murray County Chambers Economic Alliance, presented the Alliance’s November economic-development dashboard to the City of Columbia council, reporting progress on fundraising and a near-term project pipeline.

Evans said the Alliance exceeded its internal funding goal, reporting “just over $1,100,000 in annual commitment to fund our work over the next 5 years.” He said the current active project pipeline included roughly 20 projects, approximately 400 potential jobs, and about $373,000,000 in potential capital investment. Evans described a shift toward more relocations than expansions and previewed Align Murray initiatives including an advanced manufacturing industry council and a new health-care council intended to align workforce programming with employer needs.

Evans also described workforce-development activities: industrial tours for students, employer-led job-fair events, and local business promotion via a holiday gift guide and a local-first gift-card program that has sold more than $300,000 over the program’s life. He invited council members to the annual state-of-education lunch and highlighted the Alliance’s role coordinating investors and local partners on site-improvement grants, including work related to the Columbia rail site and a power-line relocation.

Council thanked the Alliance for the work and offered no substantive objections; Evans fielded a few procedural questions and noted staff would follow up on event invitations and materials.

Next steps: the Alliance will continue implementation of Align Murray priorities and follow up with city staff on potential site improvements and partnership opportunities.
