Parks staff: new golf-bridge done, irrigation repairs drove costs; ODNR creek-widening to start

Ryan, a parks and recreation staff member, told the Sandusky Boards & Commissions that the golf course’s new bridge and cart path have been completed and will be available for golfers next season.
"The new bridge is finally completed," Ryan said, and noted the work was finished in time for the close of the current season. He said the course will reopen for regular play in April.
Ryan said irrigation failures over the season required the city to hire an irrigation contractor from Toledo, which significantly increased expenses. "There were leaks everywhere around the course…we probably have to close the course" if the issues were not addressed, he said, explaining the decision to contract the repairs.
Ryan also reported an Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) project will begin shortly after the course closes; the work will widen a creek and create wetland features near the maintenance garages to improve stormwater flow and reduce the risk of future bridge or course damage from heavy rains.
The meeting did not include a formal budget amendment or vote to authorize the irrigation work; Ryan said the expense was necessary to maintain operations and that similar large expenses are not anticipated next year. No contractor name beyond a Toledo irrigation firm was given on the record.
