Commissioners hear updates on 85th Street interchange bids and regional law-enforcement facility

A commissioner reported that bids for the 85th Street interchange were let that day and that construction has already begun in some locations; the speaker said the project is projected for completion in 2027. The board did not take any action on the interchange during the meeting.
Paul Anderson, the commission administrative assistant, described an opening he attended for the new Clay County Law Enforcement Center and Jail. Anderson said the facility was completed in conjunction with Vermillion, will house the Clay County Sheriff's Office and the Vermillion Police Department, and increases the design capacity from an average of about 32 inmates per day to up to 50 inmates per day.
Anderson also noted the property tax task force final meeting is scheduled for Oct. 22 at 9 a.m. in Pierre, where the committee will present its final recommendations to the legislature.
