Sam Robertson, Cache‑Ogden wildlife district biologist, presented the proposal and answered technical questions about unit-specific harvest data. RAC members asked about a prior emergency issuance of 19 additional bison tags during drought; Rusty Robinson, regional staff on the call, said those ranges were dry at the time and that some permittees voluntarily reduced livestock AUMs. Robertson said the proposal includes shortening some long cow hunts and adding a short emergency cow hunt option for the next few years, with review in the subsequent three‑year planning cycle.
Bryce Castanetto and others raised concerns about access and whether shortening seasons to the average days-to-harvest could reduce overall harvest and hunter satisfaction. Robertson said the change aims to spread pressure rather than reduce opportunity and that archery season timing may still vary by calendar. RAC members moved to accept the proposal "as presented"; Scott Jensen moved the motion and Josh Case seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The division will track outcomes and revisit the schedule as part of the three‑year plan cycle.
