The Milwaukee Board of School Directors voted 6-0 on Nov. 13 to refer a planned work session on the board's committee structure to a Strategic Planning and Budget (SPB) meeting to be scheduled at the call of the chair.
President Missy Zomber moved that the board "move the work session on the board's committee structures to a strategic planning and budget meeting that would be called at the call of the chair." Director Ferguson seconded the motion.
The secretary called the roll on "Director Zomber's motion to refer the item to an SPB meeting." Directors present voted in favor and the motion passed with six ayes. Two directors, Jackson and Halloran, had asked to be excused from the special meeting.
The item had been noticed for possible action, but board members said they wanted the discussion to occur at a meeting that would allow public testimony. At the special meeting the board reiterated that public testimony would not be taken but that written testimony could be submitted to the Office of Board Governance for the record.
The board's referral sends the committee-structure discussion to a future SPB meeting; the chair will work with the clerk to schedule that meeting. The transcript contains inconsistent spellings of some directors' names; official minutes should be consulted for authoritative spellings and the full roll-call list.
