Clark County Public Works asked the county council on Nov. 12 to review a draft presentation from the Railroad Advisory Board before the board does community outreach about the Cholachee Prairie Railroad.
Public Works staff said the advisory board wants to hold community presentations next spring or summer to discuss economic development, environmental considerations and community benefits. "They would like to share a draft presentation with council to get feedback, and get some guidance on the presentation before they go out in the community," the staff member said.
Council members supported scheduling a work session to review the draft, while one member cautioned that the council should avoid endorsing a particular agenda if staff or the advisory board was promoting a specific position. The chair said it would be useful for council to see what staff and the advisory board plan to present to residents.
Public commenters had earlier raised concerns about a railroad-related project, including possible dust, truck traffic and impacts on homes; one speaker asked for more evening meetings so more residents could attend.
The council did not take final action on the railroad presentations at the Nov. 12 meeting; staff will bring the draft to a future work session for council feedback.
