Metro County Academy of Science and Technology board members approved a series of routine personnel and travel items at their most recent meeting, including an overnight SkillsUSA trip, two new hires, a salary-scale adjustment and an interim coordinator appointment.
The board voted to recommend an overnight field trip for three SkillsUSA students to the Central Region Fall leadership conference at the Penn Harris Hotel in Camp Hill, departing Nov. 19 at 9:30 a.m. and returning Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. The trip cost listed in the packet was $1,697 plus the price of a van; Shelley Waters is named as the chaperone and Laura Hicks is scheduled to attend on Thursday, Nov. 20. Board members asked about rooming arrangements; staff said students sign permission slips, Huntington offered an extra adult to improve rooming and transport arrangements, and the hotel rate as submitted was the best available.
The board also approved two hires recommended by administration. The board moved to hire Kenneth Fitzpatrick as a part-time custodian at $15.12 per hour, contingent on completion of new-hire paperwork and required clearances. The board likewise moved to hire Ronald Smith as a maintenance assistant at $18.86 per hour, also pending paperwork and clearances. Both motions were seconded and carried by roll call.
In personnel business, the board approved a salary-scale adjustment for Jillian Wright, health professions instructor, effective Oct. 13, 2025. The packet states Wright will move to the masters plus 15 step with a listed step salary of $153,300, prorated for the remainder of the 2025–26 school year, following completion of the qualifying credits.
The board approved an MOU between Metro County Academy of Science and Technology and the Association of Metro County Educators to assign practical nursing instructor Lisa Becker as interim practical nursing coordinator during the current coordinator's leave of absence. The board then voted to appoint Becker to that interim role for the duration of the leave.
All motions reported in the meeting minutes were adopted by roll call vote. The board announced its next regular meeting for Dec. 11, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the academy.
