Thurston County held a public hearing on a site‑specific amendment and rezone for an 8.17‑acre parcel at 7809 Martin Way in the Lacey urban growth area.
Ashley Bridal (CPED) described the property as split‑zoned: a front portion zoned for mixed‑high‑density corridor uses and a roughly seven‑acre rear portion zoned low‑density residential (R‑1, 0–6 units per acre). The applicant requested rezoning the rear portion to allow expanded high‑density residential and commercial development in the Martin Way corridor. Staff said the planning commission recommendation on the site was split and that the board could choose whether to include the proposal in the county comprehensive plan amendment package scheduled for action on Dec. 16.
John Pettit, who said he was assisting the applicant, described the site’s short‑plat history, noted planning‑commission support for corridor adjustments, and emphasized that any future development would be subject to ordinary planning‑department review and zoning standards.
After public comment the board voted to close the hearing. Commissioners discussed scheduling a follow‑up session to consider docketing and next steps; no final rezoning decision was made at the hearing.
