At the Presque Isle County meeting a Rogers City contractor criticized the county’s handling of an HVAC replacement project for the courthouse annex and urged the board to rescind the current award and re‑bid with clear specifications.
Beth Rudnick, who identified herself as owner of Josh Plumbing and Heating for more than 45 years, said Moore Mechanical (based in Traverse City and other west‑side cities) received the contract and that she had spoken with two local contractors who told her they did not receive any notice to bid. She asked whether bid specifications were prepared, who designed them, and whether local contractors had been invited. "We contractors live, work, and support our community ... We pay your salaries, and we trust that you will spend our hard earned tax money wisely. You have failed us," Rudnick said, urging the board to rescind the award and reissue specs so contractors can bid apples to apples.
Rudnick also asked the board to print meeting minutes in the local newspaper; she said the last minutes she could find online were for July 25, 2025.
There was no immediate reversal or motion recorded in the public portion of the meeting to reopen the procurement. Commissioners did not record a direct staff response to Rudnick’s request on the public record during the same segment.
Rudnick’s statements are part of the public comment record; any procurement steps (re-bids, rescissions or specifications changes) would require formal action by the board or staff and are not recorded in this meeting’s public segment.
