Committee approves $12,600 budget adjustment for Veterans Service Agency rent

Chautauqua County approved a $12,600, budget-neutral reallocation to cover a rent increase for the Veterans Service Agency after a subsidy from the Dwyer program ended, officials said.
The Chautauqua County Human Services Committee voted Nov. 12 to amend the 2025 budget for the Veterans Service Agency, reallocating $12,600 within the agency’s accounts to cover a rent increase that had previously been partially offset by the Dwyer program.
Diana Songer, deputy director of finance for human services, presented the resolution and said the transfer would increase and decrease appropriation accounts in the amount of $12,600 to cover the rent change. Greg Carlson, director of veteran services, explained that the Dwyer program had for a period subsidized some rental costs but that support ended and the agency faced a temporary gap; an unexpected retirement left space in the Dunkirk office earlier in the year that helped offset some costs for 2025.
The committee discussed that the 2026 budget reflects anticipated employee benefit savings and other adjustments. Committee members voted in favor and the resolution carried.
