Passaic County proclaims October 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness Month; denim day, flu clinic and screening outreach announced

Passaic County commissioners read into the record a proclamation designating October 2025 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and received a presentation from the county health officer outlining screening recommendations and planned local activities.
Araceli Pintell, Passaic County health officer, told the board that the American Cancer Society estimates large numbers of women in the state will be affected by breast cancer and that screening improves survival. Pintell cited New Jersey State Cancer Registry figures noting 13,735 cases recorded in Passaic County between 2018 and 2022.
The health department said it will host a Denim Day fundraiser on Oct. 31: employees who donate $5 or more may wear jeans at work and the employee who raises the most will receive a prize. The department also said it will host educational outreach materials and a flu clinic in the commissioner conference room on Oct. 31, open to employees and the public.
A proclamation was read into the record recounting national and local statistics and commending health professionals and volunteers; the board signed the proclamation. Commissioners praised the department’s outreach work and the county’s women’s health events.
No policy or funding vote was taken Oct. 28; the health department’s outreach and fundraising events are scheduled and described in the presentation.
