Commissioners said the proposed opening affects a separate mass of the building and raised concerns about how the stoop, setback and roofline would relate to the rest of the façade. The commission asked for architectural drawings that show the block of the building, the exact stoop profile, the trim/molding details and two alternative approaches (a straight-through opening and a three-quarter opening) so the commission could judge symmetry and proportion. Commissioners emphasized that any approved door and stoop must match the trim, header and stoop height used elsewhere on the building.
The commission voted to table the application and requested the applicant return with a prepared architectural drawing set and, if possible, both options for review at the next meeting.
