Community development report: single-family permits steady, construction values down; code cases rise

Staff reported that single-family permit counts remain roughly level compared with last year while construction valuation and total square footage are down. Inspective activity remains high and code enforcement cases have increased; two projects were approved and one was continued to Oct. 27.
At the Oct. 13 Planning Commission meeting, city staff delivered the monthly community development report summarizing recent permit and enforcement activity.
Planner Logan Day said single-family detached permit counts are roughly consistent with the prior year, but total construction valuation and square footage are lower. Inspections continue at higher rates relative to permits. The report also noted an increase in code enforcement cases compared with the same period last year; staff cited 292 cases last year and said cases have risen this year. Staff reported that Westgate Villas and Hawes were approved last month and that the Rampage item was continued to the Oct. 27 Planning Commission meeting.
No formal action was taken on the monthly report; it was provided for the commission’s information.
