Sheridan County rescinds partial fire restrictions, issues public guidance

Sheridan County commissioners on Oct. 21, 2025, approved Resolution 25-10-027 to rescind partial fire restrictions for the year, following a recommendation from county fire warden Chris Thomas.
"I request that we rescind our partial fire restrictions for this year," Thomas told the board after reviewing recent weather and fuel conditions. Tongue River Fire Chief Jeff Barron told commissioners that several residents want to complete burning projects before colder weather and that he supported rescission. Barron said the county's prior ban had been important during a dangerous season and praised the board's earlier actions.
Commissioners approved a motion to authorize the chairman to sign Resolution 25-10-027 by voice vote. Staff said a media release will advise residents to check weather, call early to report burns and follow safe-burning practices.
The resolution and any associated guidance will be filed with county records; county fire staff reiterated that residents should call before burning and monitor conditions.
