The Teaching, Learning & Equity Committee reported several items for board awareness on Oct. 27, 2025, including a recommended draft calendar for 2026–27, a new therapy‑dog policy, and an Advanced Placement results presentation.
Director Dornell said the draft calendar proposes returning to a full, week‑long spring break (rather than the shorter break used the last several years) as a trial. Committee members discussed that the existing board calendar policy restricts start dates to either seven days before or seven days after Labor Day; the committee recommended amending that policy language to avoid being locked into that rigid window so the district can better align calendars without automatically pushing the end of the school year later.
The committee also presented a board policy addressing therapy dogs. Director Dornell said therapy dogs have been used in district buildings and the new policy formalizes practices and considerations for their presence.
Finally, Dr. Beth Zigman, assistant director of Teaching, Learning & Equity, presented Advanced Placement results; the committee plans a deeper review of disaggregated AP data at the next meeting.
The Teaching, Learning & Equity Committee will meet Nov. 10 at 6:00 p.m. for further review; the AP data and the amended calendar policy will be discussed in more detail at that session.
