Village of Jackson committee backs 18% sewer rate increase effective Jan. 1, 2026

The Village of Jackson Board of Public Works on Oct. 28 recommended that the Budget Committee, Finance and Village Board approve an 18% increase in sewer utility rates effective Jan. 1, 2026.
Board member Heckendorf moved the recommendation, and Board member Kripke seconded. The motion carried after members expressed support during a verbal vote.
Director of Public Works Jack said the proposed increase is “the second annual increase of 18% as recommended by Ehlers,” referring to the village’s financial advisor. Board discussion noted the increase is intended to keep the sewer utility solvent and that the current plan anticipates another rate adjustment in a subsequent year.
The recommendation will go to the village budget and finance process and then to the Village Board for final approval. The board did not adopt the rate ordinance itself at the meeting; it recommended that those bodies approve the change.
