After closed session City Council authorizes denials and instructs staff on pending claims
Summary

The City Council met in closed session on Oct. 28 to confer with legal counsel about pending litigation and claims. After returning to open session the city attorney reported the outcomes.
City Attorney Salinas said the council received presentations on four matters. On the tort claim filed by Richard Renteria (slip and fall on Otis Street) the council, on a motion by Councilwoman Abalos and seconded by Councilmember Hurtado, voted 5–0 to authorize the denial of the claim.
On a separate matter involving a former employee (Eric Arteaga), the council received a presentation and, on a motion by Councilmember Avalos and seconded by Mayor Davila, authorized a resolution on the matter; Salinas said the resolution remains pending and will be disclosed consistent with the Brown Act when finalized.
On a claim by Lydia Canas (alleged sidewalk slip), the council, on a motion by Councilmember Hurtado and seconded by Mayor Davila, authorized denial of that case by a 5–0 vote.
A fourth matter — a petition from Maria del Rosario Gonzalez seeking to file a late claim — was presented and no action was taken.
The city attorney cited Government Code provisions under the Brown Act (codes read into the record) during the closed session notice. Staff said the council’s actions were motions to deny or to authorize a resolution as described; the city clerk recorded no public comment during the closed session notice period.
