South Gate welcomes new staff across parks, administration and police

At its Oct. 28 meeting the City Council formally introduced a slate of new and promoted full‑time employees across multiple departments.
Parks & Recreation Director Steve Kostley introduced facility and programming staff, including Anabel Anibal Chavez (facility park maintenance), Lisa Munoz (recreation coordinator) and a promoted ground maintenance worker identified as Mario. Kostley read brief biographies including prior experience and community ties.
City Manager Houston introduced Rick Piles as the city’s new Accounting and Finance Manager. Piles, who most recently worked in higher‑education finance, told the council he’d been on the job about a month and was supporting the annual audit and process improvement projects.
The police department introduced several recent hires and lateral recruits, including Officer Luis Gomez and Officer Misael/Misael/Miguel (transcript spelling varies) and a newly promoted dispatcher Elizabeth Lopez. Police staff said recruits were completing field training and were expected to patrol independently soon.
Councilmembers welcomed the employees and posed brief questions about assignments and training. The introductions were a ceremonial item; no formal council action was required.
