South Gate highlights new sidewalk‑grinding program after staff innovation yields thousands of repairs

Public works staff member Arturo told the City Council the city maintains over 250 miles of sidewalk and that tree roots are the principal cause of uplift and tripping hazards. “We were doing about 150 locations a year. We’ve now moved over to the new grinding approach…in the last 18 months, we’ve done over 1,800 locations in the city,” Arturo said.
